Clinical Associate Professor
Dr. Elise Sarvas grew up in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and completed her Bachelor of Science in Biology at Duke University. After working with the National Institutes of Health in the Research Triangle area she donned a lighter shade of blue and earned her DDS at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Sarvas completed her residency in pediatric dentistry at the University of Washington and Seattle Children's Hospital while also earning Masters' degrees in Pediatric Dentistry and Public Health.
Dr. Sarvas is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Minnesota Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association and the Minnesota Dental Association. She is a board eligible member of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
She is excited to join the University of Minnesota as a full-time faculty member and serving the pediatric oral health needs of her new community. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, running, and exploring the outdoors.
Clinical Assistant Professor
Dr. Julio Sotillo obtained his DDS concurrently with a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. He subsequently completed his pediatric dental residency training at the University of California San Francisco while serving as Chief Resident his senior year. Dr. Sotillo is a board eligible member of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. He is a faculty member in the Pediatric Division at University of Minnesota School of Dentistry where he teaches future dentists and is engaged in patient care.
With a passion to enhance children's oral care, Dr. Sotillo is committed to help children grow with healthy smiles while instilling a confident attitude about dental health. And so the most fulling part of his career has been and will always be to provide a fun and compassionate dental environment and deliver the best oral healthcare to his young patients.
Dr. Sotillo is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Minnesota Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association and the Minnesota Dental Association.
When he is not practicing, teaching or in research, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters.
Clinical Assistant Professor
Dr. Leon is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and Director of Orthodontic Training for the University of Minnesota Advanced Education Program in Pediatric Dentistry.
Dr. Leon is passionate about excellence in patient care and dental education. He started dental school at 16 years of age and since then he has completed 18 years of advanced clinical training before entering into full-time academia. His international reputation and clinical expertise in Orthodontics has allowed him to collaborate in several scientific publications that are used in the training of dentist and specialist around the world. He is fluent in English, Portuguese and Spanish
Dr. Leon is married and has twin boys. As a family they are involved in volunteerism and support children ministries in the Twin Cities, Peru, Brazil, Egypt, and Senegal.
