Summary

Dr. Leon-Salazar is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Pediatric Dentistry and Director of Orthodontic Training for the Advanced Education Program in Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Leon-Salazar, a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, maintains a private practice in Orthodontics at the new state-of-the-art University of Minnesota Pediatric Dental Clinic, made possible by Delta Dental of Minnesota.

Dr. Leon-Salazar has extensive international experience in dental education and patient care. He earned his dental degree from Inca Garcilaso de La Vega University in Lima, Peru and his Specialty Certificate and Masters’ Degree in Orthodontics from Bauru Dental School at the University of Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo, Brazil. In 2007, Dr. Leon-Salazar came to the University of Minnesota to pursue further clinical training and earned Advanced Certificates in Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction and Orofacial Pain (2011) and Orthodontics (2013). Upon graduation from the Orthodontic Program, he served as Assistant Professor at the University of Kentucky for one year before being recruited back to the University of Minnesota.

In his spare time, Dr. Leon-Salazar enjoys spending time with his wife and twin boys, reading, and fishing.

Research Summary/Interests

Dr. Leon has particular interest in evidence based dentistry and clinical research focused on three main topics: orthodontic treatment outcomes, cleft lip and palate, and temporomandibular joint dysfunction.
